Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 251 (VMFA-251), known as the "Thunderbolts," is a distinguished U.S. Marine Corps aviation unit. Activated in December 1941, the squadron fought in the Pacific during World War II, flying F4F Wildcats and F4U Corsairs. Over the years, it transitioned through aircraft like the F-8 Crusader and the F/A-18 Hornet, reflecting its adaptability.

VMFA-251 has participated in numerous conflicts, including the Korean War, Desert Storm, and the Global War on Terror. Flying the F/A-18C Hornet, they provide critical close air support, air superiority, and precision strike capabilities.

VMFA-251 was deactivated on April 23, 2020, at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Beaufort, South Carolina. The squadron was relocated to MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina, to transition to the F-35C Lightning II aircraft.
